Kumbha Thiruvathira Mahotsavam 2026 is one of the most vibrant and spiritually significant annual festivals celebrated at Pattazhy Devi Temple in Kollam district, Kerala. Observed during the Malayalam month of Kumbham, this eight day festival brings together centuries old temple traditions, powerful ritual performances, classical art forms and deep community participation under the administration of the Travancore Devaswom Board.
The festival begins with the ceremonial Kodiyettam marking the formal commencement of the celebrations. Each day is filled with sacred rituals including Harinaama Keerthanam, Lalitha Sahasranamam, Bhagavata Parayanam, special poojas, Pushpalankaram and Annadanam. Devotees gather in large numbers to seek the blessings of Goddess Bhadrakali, the presiding deity of the temple known for her divine power and protective grace.
A major highlight of the festival is the Pech and Bhadrakali Mudi Ezhunnallippu, a rare and powerful ritual procession symbolizing the fierce and benevolent aspects of the Goddess. The Thanga Anki procession, traditional Kettukazhcha displays, Thalappoli and Vilakku add grandeur and devotional intensity to the celebrations. The rhythmic energy of Panchavadyam and Pancharimelam performed by renowned artists and young talents fills the temple premises with a majestic spiritual atmosphere.
Cultural evenings form an integral part of the Mahotsavam featuring Kathakali, Ottanthullal, classical music concerts, dance performances, devotional bhajans, folk arts, drama and musical orchestras. These programs provide a platform for both eminent performers and emerging artists reflecting Kerala’s rich artistic heritage.
