The Meena Thiruvathira Mahotsavam at Pattazhy Devi Temple in Kollam is one of the most significant and vibrant festivals celebrated in Kerala. This annual event honors the divine goddess Bhagavathy drawing devotees from across the state and beyond.
The festival is marked by an atmosphere of deep devotion, cultural richness and spiritual fervor reflecting the traditional heritage of Kerala temple festivities.
A highlight of the Mahotsavam is the Ponnin Thirumudi Ezhunnallippu, the grand procession of the goddess’s golden crown. This ritual is a magnificent spectacle where the idol of the deity adorned with the golden crown is taken out in a ceremonial procession accompanied by traditional temple music, Nadaswaram and percussion ensembles. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the divine sight and offer their prayers seeking blessings for prosperity, health and well being.
