Meenam Uthram Thirunal Mahotsavam & Prathista Varshikam at Palamood Manikanda Sannidhi, Kollam is one of the most revered and vibrant celebrations in the region, attracting devotees from across Kerala. This festival is dedicated to Lord Manikanda, the presiding deity of the temple and commemorates both the celestial day of Meenam Uthram as well as the anniversary of the deity’s installation.
The temple comes alive during this period, adorned with colorful decorations, traditional lamps and intricate floral arrangements creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere for all who visit.
The celebrations begin with the Mahaganapati Homam, a sacred fire ritual invoking Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles and bless devotees with prosperity and wisdom. This is followed by Kalash Poojas where holy water-filled pots are worshipped symbolizing abundance and divine presence.
A special highlight of the festival is the Panchaloha Vigraha installation where a sacred idol made of five metals is consecrated with elaborate rituals drawing large crowds of devotees eager to witness this divine ceremony.
The festival also emphasizes community participation and devotion. Annadanam, the offering of food to devotees is conducted daily, fostering a sense of unity and service. Traditional processions like Thalappoli with women carrying lamps and singing devotional song, add grandeur and cultural depth to the celebrations. In addition, the temple hosts Natakam and other cultural programs showcasing local art forms allowing devotees to experience both spiritual and artistic heritage.
