Nedumkuthira Eduppu Floats 2026 at Chirakkara Bhagavathi Temple, Kollam, is one of the most vibrant and culturally significant highlights of the annual Kumbha Bharani–Karthika Mahotsavam. Deeply rooted in Kerala’s temple traditions, the Nedumkuthira Eduppu represents a ritualistic offering in which towering beautifully decorated horse effigies are ceremoniously carried in procession as a mark of devotion to Goddess Bhagavathi.
The word “Nedumkuthira” literally means “tall horse” and these grand structures are crafted with remarkable artistry using wood, cloth, bamboo and colorful embellishments. Each float reflects weeks of preparation, dedication and teamwork by local devotees and cultural groups. The procession is traditionally organized with the active participation of different karas, strengthening unity and collective devotion among the people.
During the festival, the temple premises come alive with rhythmic drum beats, devotional chants and traditional temple music. The majestic horse floats accompanied by caparisoned elements and ceremonial umbrellas move gracefully through the temple surroundings, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. The ritual symbolizes valor, protection and the offering of strength to the presiding deity. It is believed that participating in or witnessing the procession brings blessings, prosperity and divine grace.
Apart from the Nedumkuthira procession, the Mahotsavam also features special poojas, deeparadhana, cultural programs and community gatherings. Devotees from various parts of Kollam and neighboring regions gather to experience the grandeur of the celebration.
