Meena Bharani Mahotsavam is the most sacred and vibrant annual festival celebrated at the renowned Punalur Bharanikavu Sree Bhadradevi Temple in Kollam district, Kerala. Dedicated to Goddess Bhadradevi, the divine embodiment of power, prosperity and protection, this grand festival draws thousands of devotees from Punalur and surrounding regions every year.
The temple is revered as a powerful spiritual center where devotees seek blessings for strength, success and well being.
The festival is observed during the Malayalam month of Meenam and is deeply associated with the Bharani star which is considered highly auspicious for Devi worship. Meena Bharani Mahotsavam reflects the rich traditions, rituals and cultural heritage of Kerala temple festivals. The temple premises come alive with vibrant decorations, devotional chants and the rhythmic sounds of traditional percussion instruments.
One of the major highlights of the celebration is the grand Pushparatha Ghoshayatra where the deity is taken out in a beautifully decorated procession accompanied by caparisoned elephants, Thalappoli, Muthukuda and traditional Chenda Melam. The visual splendor of elephants adorned with nettipattam and ornaments adds majestic charm to the festivities. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the procession and offer prayers with deep devotion.
