മലക്കുട ഉച്ചാര മഹോത്സവം 2026 ശകുനിദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം | Malakkuda Uchara Mahotsavam 2026 Shakuni Deva Temple Kollam
The annual Uchara festival conducted at the Mayamkottu Malanchavaru Devaswom in Pavithreswaram, Kollam is one of the most distinctive and spiritually significant temple festivals in Kerala. This sacred celebration is deeply rooted in ancient Dravidian temple traditions and is observed with unwavering devotion by Mala Deva believers from across the region
The temple holds a unique place in Indian spiritual heritage as it is revered as the only Shakuni Deva Temple in the country serving as the spiritual center for the Malanada tradition.
The festival unfolds over several days with a carefully structured sequence of rituals, offerings and cultural events. Each day begins with early morning ceremonies such as Mala Unarthal, Harinama Keerthanam and Bhagavatha Parayanam, reflecting the temple’s emphasis on purity, discipline, and devotion. Sacred rites like Ganapathi Homam, Noorum Palum, Karikku Bali and Bhagavathi Seva are performed with great reverence often sponsored by devotees as offerings seeking blessings and fulfillment of vows.
One of the most visually striking aspects of the celebration is the Malakkuda Ezhunnallathu, a grand ceremonial procession accompanied by various forms of Kettukazhcha, Karakettukazhcha and traditional percussion ensembles. These offerings symbolize devotion, gratitude, and communal participation, transforming the temple surroundings into a vibrant spiritual arena. The Uchara Day holds special importance marked by Bharathamkali performances, elaborate rituals and large scale participation by devotees.
Evenings during the festival are enriched with cultural programmes including classical dramas, dance musical productions, folk performances and ganamelas presented by renowned troupes from different parts of Kerala. These performances not only entertain but also preserve and promote traditional art forms associated with temple culture. Floral decorations, chenda melam and devotional music further enhance the sanctity and grandeur of the occasion.
