കൃഷ്ണ മഹോത്സവം 2026 തെക്കൻഗുരുവായൂർ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം | Krishna Mahotsavam 2026 Thekkan Guruvayoor Sree Krishnaswamy Temple Kollam
Krishna Mahotsavam is one of the most important annual festivals celebrated with great devotion and cultural splendour at Thekkan Guruvayoor Sree Krishnaswamy Temple in Kollam district, Kerala. Rooted deeply in Kerala’s temple traditions, this festival reflects the spiritual, artistic and communal heritage associated with the worship of Lord Krishna and the temple’s long standing customs.
The festival spans several days and includes a rich sequence of ritualistic worship, temple ceremonies and vibrant cultural programmes. Each day begins in the early hours of the morning with sacred rites such as Palliyunarthal, Ganapathi Homam, Usha Pooja, Sreebali and Srimad Bhagavatha Parayanam creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere for devotees. Annadanam, the offering of free food is an integral part of the Mahotsavam symbolising compassion and service, and is attended by large numbers of devotees every day.
One of the highlights of the festival is Maha Shivaratri observed with special poojas, night long worship, devotional music and traditional art forms. The ceremonial Thrikodiyettu marks the formal commencement of the Mahotsavam followed by days of Utsavams conducted with the active participation of different karas reflecting strong community involvement and unity.
Evenings during Krishna Mahotsavam are especially vibrant featuring classical and folk art performances such as Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kathakali, devotional dance dramas, bhajan and super hit ganamelas by renowned orchestras. Traditional temple percussion ensembles like Panchavadyam and Panchari Melam along with Nadaswaram and Thavil add grandeur to the celebrations.
