കൊല്ലം പൂരം 2026 ആഷ്രാമം ശ്രീ കൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം | Kollam Pooram 2026 Ashramam Sri Krishnaswamy Temple Kollam
Kollam Pooram is the grand culmination of the annual festival of the historic Ashramam Sri Krishnaswamy Temple in Kollam, Kerala celebrated with unmatched enthusiasm and cultural fervor every April. The temple revered for its idol of Lord Krishna in the form of Navaneet Krishnan is located on the scenic shores of Ashtamudi Lake and the festival has grown over the years to become one of the most vibrant temple festivals in southern Kerala.
The festival spans approximately ten days and is deeply rooted in the traditions of Kerala’s temple culture. Throughout the festival period, devotees participate in various rituals, pujas and cultural programs including devotional music, traditional art forms and community gatherings that build anticipation toward the grand event. As part of the celebration, special offerings and prayers are made to Lord Krishna and devotees from across Kollam and neighbouring districts converge at the temple to partake in the spiritual atmosphere.
The highlight of Kollam Pooram is the spectacular procession of caparisoned elephants, which are adorned with ornate golden headdresses, colourful parasols and peacock feather fans. These majestic elephants arrive from a number of nearby temples in the region particularly the Thamarakulam Sri Mahaganapathy Temple and the Puthiyakavu Bhagawathy Temple and assemble at the Asramam Maidan where the main festivities take place.
A crowd favourite event during the festival is the Kudamattam, a rhythmic and colourful exchange of parasols atop the elephants, accompanied by the pulsating beats of traditional percussion ensembles like Melam and Panchavadyam. This spectacle of sound and colour reflects Kerala’s rich musical heritage and draws thousands of onlookers each year.
In addition to the elephant processions and percussion performances, the festival includes Aanayoottu and other devotional rituals that celebrate the spiritual unity of the community. As evening falls, the festivities reach their peak with an impressive fireworks display lighting up the skies above the festival grounds creating a dazzling end to the event.
