The Uthram Thirunal Mahotsavam at Kokkott Moorthikkavu Temple, Agastyakodu, Kollam is one of the most vibrant and spiritually significant festivals in the region celebrated with deep devotion and traditional Kerala temple rituals.
The festival honors the presiding deity Sri Aruthakandan Kolamoorthi who is believed to bless devotees with protection, prosperity and spiritual fulfillment.
During the Mahotsavam, the temple comes alive with a variety of rituals, poojas and offerings including Palliyunarthal, Ganapathi Homam, Mrityunjaya Homam, Kalasha Pooja and Annadanam. Devotees also participate in Ponkal offerings, Deeparadhana and Kalasha Abhishekam which are considered highly auspicious and bring divine grace to the participants.
The festival is also a celebration of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage featuring traditional art forms like Thiruvathira, Kaikottikali, Chenda Melam and folk performances. Evening programs include devotional music, ritual dances and spectacular visual presentations that engage both devotees and visitors alike.
The Uthram Thirunal Mahotsavam serves not only as a religious event but also as a community gathering where devotees from various places come together to witness the sacred rituals, participate in cultural programs and contribute to the offerings. The temple premises are beautifully decorated with flowers, lights and traditional motifs creating a serene yet festive atmosphere.
