The Karthika Mahotsavam 2026 at Sree Parvathi Devi Temple, Kollam is one of the most anticipated religious and cultural celebrations in the region attracting devotees from across Kerala and beyond.
This annual festival, held in the Malayalam month of Dhanur (January) is a seven day event filled with devotional rituals, cultural programs and community gatherings that honor the Goddess Parvathi.
The festival is meticulously organized by the temple authorities and the advisory committee ensuring a harmonious blend of spirituality and cultural vibrancy.
Each day of the festival begins with Bhagavatha Parayanam a sacred recital of the Bhagavatham followed by Deeparadhana in the evening.
The lighting of Chamayavilakku lamps creates a serene and divine atmosphere enhancing the spiritual experience for devotees. Annadanam or the offering of free meals is conducted daily reflecting the temple’s commitment to community service and charity.
A highlight of the festival is the Kettukazhcha, a grand procession featuring beautifully decorated structures and effigies prepared by various local communities and cultural groups. These processions are accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles creating an electrifying ambiance of devotion and celebration. Cultural programs, including classical dance, drama and music performances, are held each evening showcasing local talent and traditional art forms.
