Desiya Mahotsavam 2026 at Sree Bhoothanatha Temple, Chathannoor, Kollam is a grand spiritual and cultural celebration that reflects the deep rooted traditions and devotional heritage of Kerala. The temple is widely revered for its antiquity, majestic presence, strict ritual practices and the powerful divine energy believed to reside in Sree Bhoothanatha. The celebrations commence with the auspicious Chandra Pongala on March 20, 2026 marking the beginning of a series of spiritually uplifting events. The Kodiyettam ceremony on March 24, 2026 (Meenam 10), held between 10:15 AM and 11:00 AM officially marks the start of the main festival days. From this point onwards, the temple premises come alive with a variety of rituals, poojas and offerings performed with strict adherence to tradition. Devotees can also witness a wide range of cultural programs including Kathakali, classical dance performances, music concerts, Panchavadyam and Chenda Melam all of which add to the grandeur of the festival. Events like Makam Vilakku and Uthram Vilakku illuminate the temple with spiritual fervor and festive charm. The festival concludes on April 2, 2026 (Meenam 19) with the grand Thiru Arattu, a majestic ritual procession featuring decorated elephants, traditional melam performances and stunning visual spectacles. This is followed by the Kodiyirakkam between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM marking the formal end of the celebrations.
