കുംഭ ബരാണി കാർത്തിക തിരുനാൾ മഹോത്സവം 2026 ചിറക്കര ശ്രീ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം | Kumbha Bharani Karthika Thirunal Mahotsavam 2026 Chirakkara Sree Bhagavathi Temple Kollam
The Kumbha Bharani Karthika Thirunal Mahotsavam 2026 at Chirakkara Sree Bhagavathi Temple in Kollam is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich temple festivals in Kerala. Celebrated annually in the Malayalam month of Kumbham, this festival honors the goddess Bhagavathi believed to protect devotees and bless them with prosperity and well being.
The festival spans several days featuring a variety of religious rituals, cultural performances and community gatherings that draw devotees from across the region.
The festivities begin with Thrikkodiyettam, the ceremonial flag hoisting which marks the official start of the celebrations. This is followed by Thottampattu and Kalamezhuthu, traditional art forms where intricate floor drawings of the deity are created using natural colored powder, accompanied by devotional songs that narrate stories of the goddess. Early mornings witness Prabhata Bhakshanam, a ritualistic offering of food to the deity and Akhanda Nama, the continuous chanting of sacred hymns which creates a spiritual atmosphere throughout the temple premises.
One of the key highlights of the festival is the Ghoshayatra, a grand procession featuring beautifully decorated elephants, traditional drummers performing Chenda Melam, and devotees carrying ceremonial lamps. The festival also includes Thalappoli, a luminous ritual where women carry plates with lamps and offerings, and Annadanam, the distribution of free meals to all devotees reinforcing the spirit of community and devotion.
In addition to these rituals, the festival hosts cultural programs including traditional dances, dramas and musical performances showcasing Kerala’s rich heritage. The festival fair or Utsava Chanda provides an opportunity for devotees and visitors to enjoy local crafts, food and festive activities.
