The Kumbha Thiruvathira Thrikkodiyettam Mahotsavam 2026 at Cheriyil Devi Temple, Kollam is one of the most revered and vibrant religious festivals in Kerala celebrated with immense devotion and traditional grandeur.
The festival begins each day with Nirmalya Darshanam followed by Abhishekam and Harinam Keerthanam, allowing devotees to receive the divine blessings of the goddess. Important rituals such as Ganapathi Homam, Kalasha Pooja, Usha Pooja and Sree Bhootha Bali are performed in the mornings, accompanied by Bhagavatha Parayanam recitations that are conducted by experienced reciters, creating a spiritual ambiance that fills the temple premises with sacred vibrations.
Throughout the festival, several cultural programs are organized including Bharatanatyam, semi classical fusion dances, folk arts, drama performances and musical ensembles.
The evenings feature special recitations like Lalitha Sahasranamam and Deepa Aaradhana followed by Athazha Pooja, which provide opportunities for devotees to participate in devotional offerings. A notable highlight of the festival is the Aattbali and Pallivetta rituals culminating in the grand Aarattu procession where the deity is ceremoniously taken to the temple pond and returned accompanied by Thalappoli, Panchavadyam, Chenda Melam and other traditional instruments drawing large crowds of devotees.
The festival is also a time for community participation with local families and organizations contributing to pooja offerings and organizing cultural events. The Thrikkodiyettam ceremony marking the ceremonial raising and lowering of the festival flag, is celebrated with grandeur, symbolizing the beginning and conclusion of this auspicious event. The Mahotsavam not only strengthens spiritual faith but also preserves Kerala’s rich cultural heritage offering devotees an immersive experience of devotion, music, art and tradition.
