Bharani Mahotsavam is one of the most anticipated and vibrant festivals celebrated at the Sree Mookkumpuzha Devi Temple in Kollam. This annual festival, dedicated to the divine Goddess Mookkumpuzha Amma attracts devotees from across Kerala and beyond who come to seek her blessings and participate in the grand celebrations.
The festival is marked by a series of elaborate rituals, traditional ceremonies and cultural programs that reflect the rich heritage of Kerala’s temple festivities.
The ten day celebration begins with the ceremonial opening of the temple gates followed by Nirmalya Darshan and special Abhishekam to the deity, performed with utmost devotion.
Daily poojas and offerings are conducted throughout the festival period creating an atmosphere of spiritual fervor and communal devotion. One of the highlights of Bharani Mahotsavam is the processions with decorated idols, accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles like Panchavadyam and Chenda Melam which fill the temple premises with rhythmic energy.
In addition to religious rituals, the festival features cultural programs including classical dance performances, music recitals and local art forms that showcase the region’s artistic traditions.
