മഹാശിവരാത്രി മഹോത്സവം 2026 അഞ്ചൽ അഗസ്ത്യക്കോട് ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം | Maha Shivaratri Mahotsavam 2026 Anchal Agasthyacodu Sri Mahadeva Temple Kollam
Maha Shivaratri is one of the most sacred and spiritually significant festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is observed with great devotion and grandeur at the Agasthyacodu Sri Mahadeva Temple near Anchal in Kollam district, Kerala. This ancient temple known for its serene surroundings and deep-rooted spiritual traditions becomes a vibrant center of worship and cultural expression during the Maha Shivaratri Mahotsavam in 2026.
Each day begins with regular temple poojas including early morning rituals, abhishekams and special offerings to Lord Mahadeva. Devotees from nearby villages and distant places visit the temple in large numbers to seek blessings, observe vrathas and participate in the sacred ceremonies. The atmosphere during the festival is filled with the sound of temple bells, chants of “Om Namah Shivaya” and devotional music.
One of the major highlights of the festival is Maha Shivaratri day marked by elaborate poojas, special homams, kalasha abhishekams and the all night vigil observed by devotees. Traditional rituals such as Bhoothabali, Pallivetta and Aarattu are performed with great ceremonial importance reflecting the temple’s rich ritual heritage. The Aarattu ceremony where the deities are taken in a grand procession for a sacred bath signifies purification and divine blessings for the community.
Alongside the religious rituals, the festival also features a variety of cultural programs that add to its festive spirit. Classical art forms, temple music, percussion performances, dance dramas, Ottanthullal and devotional concerts are presented by renowned artists and cultural groups. These performances not only entertain devotees but also preserve and promote Kerala’s traditional art forms.
