Lord Muruga, also known as Kartikeya, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Shanmukha, and by various other names, is a prominent deity in Hinduism, particularly in South India. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is regarded as the epitome of courage, wisdom, and valor.
The legend of Goddess Parvati presenting the Vel (spear) to Lord Muruga to eliminate the demon Tharakasura is a significant story in Hindu mythology. According to this tale, the sages were troubled by the demon Tharakasura and sought help from Lord Shiva. In response, Shiva instructed his son Muruga to defeat the demon. Parvati, Muruga's mother, presented him with the Vel, the most powerful weapon, to aid him in his mission. Muruga then successfully vanquished Tharakasura and his minions on the Pooyam star day in the month of Thai, using the Vel.
