This temple stands atop a hill (Mala). Unlike conventional temples, Malanada does not have a deity or a Sreekovil. Instead, devotees offer their prayers on a raised platform known as 'Althara' or 'Mandapam'.

The divine entity worshipped at Malanada, believed to be the 'Sankalpa Moorthy', is associated with Duryodhana, according to local belief.

Malakkuda Festival
The Malakkuda Festival is a significant annual event celebrated at the Peruviruthy Malanada Temple in Edakkad, Kollam district, Kerala, India. During this festival, devotees participate in vibrant processions, cultural programs, and traditional rituals to honor the divine entity associated with Duryodhana, known as the 'Sankalpa Moorthy'.
Malanada Thookkam
It is one of the most popular traditions followed in Malanada. The right to do the thookkam iis reserved for Gurukkalsserial family. At present, the thukam is done by gurukkalsseril family.
