The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Bhadrakali Devi, a fierce and powerful form of Goddess Parvati. She is worshipped for her ability to protect devotees from evil, grant prosperity, and ensure overall well-being.
Apart from the major festivals, the temple hosts various special poojas and rituals throughout the year. Devotees participate in these observances to seek protection, prosperity, and spiritual growth, experiencing the powerful and benevolent presence of Goddess Bhadrakali.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Meena Bharani Maholsavam
Meena Bharani Maholsavam is marked by a grand Ghoshayatra, where decorated idols of Goddess Bhadrakali are paraded through the local area with traditional music. The festival also features Pongala, a ritual where female devotees cook a special offering of rice, jaggery, and coconut in clay pots to honor the goddess. Additionally, a Samooha Sadhya, or community feast, is held, bringing devotees together to share a traditional Kerala meal, fostering unity and devotion.
Navaratri Festival
During the Navaratri festival at Kolloorvila Bharanikavu Temple, the Devi Bhagavatha Navaha Yanjyam is conducted with great devotion and fervor. This nine-day ritual involves the continuous recitation of the Devi Bhagavatham, a sacred text that narrates the glories and stories of Goddess Bhadrakali. Devotees gather in large numbers to participate in the Yanjyam, seeking the blessings of the goddess for prosperity, protection, and spiritual upliftment.
