The temple is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga, revered here in her fierce yet compassionate form as Mahadevi. Housed in a traditional square sreekovil, the idol is venerated through age-old tantric rituals and community-driven devotional practices. The shrine is complemented by smaller sanctuaries for upa-devatas, creating a sacred complex that exemplifies Kerala’s temple architecture and spiritual ethos. As a local hub for faith and culture, the temple fosters deep communal bonds through regular rites and festivals, drawing devotees who seek the divine protection and blessings of the Mother Goddess
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Navaratri
Navaratri is one of the most significant festivals observed at the temple, lasting for nine days. It is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Bhadrakali and her various forms. During this festival, the temple is adorned with colorful decorations, and special rituals and prayers are performed daily.
Kumbha Bharani Annual Festival
Celebrated in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February–March) on the Bharani nakshatra day, this is the temple's major annual festival. It includes tantric pujas, dhara (ritual water anointing), pushpanjali, traditional art performances, and a ceremonial procession. A unique feature of this festival is the Pongala offering, where women devotees gather to cook sweet rice as an offering to the goddess.
