The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga (Bhagavathy), revered as a fierce protector and source of inner strength. Managed by the local Choottara/Kammanchery community, the temple follows traditional Kerala architectural styles, with a sloping tiled roof and a compact sanctum. Daily rituals abhishekam, pushpanjali, and deepa aradhana are conducted by resident priests. Widely regarded as peaceful and conducive to personal worship, the shrine is especially popular among the Choottara family and local residents, who frequently visit for family pujas and blessings.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Pongala
During Meenam–Medam (Mar–Apr), women devotees gather around the temple courtyard to cook rice pudding (pongala) in small clay pots as an offering to Bhagavathy. It’s a vibrant, community-led ritual emblematic of collective devotion and gratitude.
Durga Devi Utsavam
Held annually in Kumbham Meenam (Feb–Mar), this multi day festival features intensified pujas, pushpanjali, and devotional chants. The highlight is the ezhunnallippu procession, where the goddess’s idol is carried through the temple lane amid traditional percussion instruments, drawing residents from around Eravipuram.
