The Valiya Pattu Mahotsavam is a ritualistic festival conducted at the ancient Kizhur Sastha Temple in
Chandragiri. The event takes place in the Malayalam calendar month of Vrishchikam for 7 days. The rituals followed during the festival are believed to appease Lord Kirata, the deity of the temple. The divine presence is said to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva and is known as the Lord's son.
The origin of Pattu Mahotsavam can be traced to Nilambur Kovilakam. Hundreds of singers gather at the premises of the temple to sing in praise of the deity. Offerings and prayers are also made to Lord Shiva during the festival. It is believed that the Lord is very benevolent and generous to his devotees.

The festival begins with Kalavara Nirakkal (the store house of the temple is filled with grains and vegetables and other items which are used to prepare food for devotees during festival days) from different regions. Sreebhoothabali and Pattulsavam along with special Poojas are held on the first six days. The final day's events include Adiyiloonu,Thidambu Nirtham etc. along with other rituals. Hundreds of singers gather to sing divine praises as an offering. A large number of devotees flock to the temple to witness the festival rituals, especially the Pattu/savam. The festival is also marked by mystical Theyyam performances.
