The annual 3 days Theyyamkettu Mahotsavam at Kadavathu Veedu Tharavadu in Kasaragod is celebrated in March with vibrant Theyyam performances, grand rituals, and traditional festivities.

Around 400 years before, a group of Billava families of Karnataka lived in Kanara for job. In course of time, a family from the group started looking for their ancestors and Kazhakam and travelled to Kerala. By knowing that their ancestors were Pekkadatheeyan Adhipathyam and Sreeramavilyam Kazhakam in South Thrikkarippur and came back. Theyyamkettu Mahotsavam Kadavathu Veedu Tharavadu Kasargod Kerala After that they split into three and started travelling to North Cherkalapadi, Kumbala Aarikkodi Korikkandam and Puthur Veetil Desam. The people who went to Pekkadam and Padanna stayed in South and those went to Padi and Aarikkodi stayed in North. Meanwhile, Padi and Padanna became the ancestral family of Kadavathuveedu. There is also a story that, the head of the Tharavadu had a dream and God appeared before him and asked him to install Sreemahadevan. As a remembrance of this they started the festival long years back.

The programs associated with the festival are very colourful. The theyyams and their costumes are the enchanting bit. Festivities include many ritualistic events like Koovam Alakkal, Kalavara Nirakkal, Shaktheya Pooja, Kaiveethu, Karnnon Theyyam's Vellattam, Korachan Theyyam's Vellattam, Purappattu, Mara Pilarkkal etc. Koovam Alakkal and Kalavara Nirakkal are the events before the first day of festival. The festival ends with Kaiveethu on the last day.
