In the later part of the 18 century a handful of Gowda Saraswatha Brahmins were reportedly staying in Kasargod town. There was no temple or place of worship for them and they used to visit Manjeshwara for the same.
Later, some of the prominent among the community like Pattanashetty. Santhappa Shanbhogue and Purohit Vedamoorty Anantha Padmanabha Bhat joined hands to form a committee for establishing a place of worship for the community. A mutt with thatched roof was constructed in the northern side of the present temple site and an idol Sri Kodandarama was consecrated on an auspicious day in 1772. The mutt became a center for the Gowda Saraswatha Brahmins in the town not only to worship but also to conduct cultural activities and to have social gatherings.

The festival starts with Prarthana and Ganapathi Homa. The main functions include Sankeertana Saptaha Deepa
Prajwalana, Bhajana, Samaradhane, Rangapooja and Utsava. Kalabhalankara Seva is a special event conducted
during the fourth day of the festival. Special Poojas are conducted to praise the deity presiding in the temple. The
final day's events include Lotangana around Deepa, Hagalu Utsava, Saptaha Mangala, Phalavali auction etc. The
festival concludes with Bhoori Samaradhane.
