Shashti Mahotsavam is celebrated at the Thalaklayi Subrahmanya Temple during the Malayalam calendar month of Thulam immediately after Deepavali and is a thanksgiving to Lord Subrahmanya, the presiding deity of the temple.Shashti refers to the sixth day of the new moon and is a religiously significant day in Subrahmanya temples. Shashti Mahotsavam Sree Subramanya Swami Temple Thalaklayi Kasargod Kerala Legend has it that the Lord appeared in the temporal world to get rid of the evil demon Tharakasura thus signifying the victory of good over bad and the Shashti festival commemorates this.It is also believed that Lord Subrahmanya came to Thalaklayi from Karnataka for the sake of his devotees from the region. The festival starts with Niramala Pooja one week before the festival. Bhajana is conducted on all the six significant days of the festival. The final day is the most important of all and Is marked by various rituals and festive events such as Seeveli, Panchavadyam, Thidambu Nirtham, Thayambaka,fireworks etc. Thousands of devotees visit the temple to pray and seek the blessings of Lord Subrahmanya. Many observe fast as a means of achieving spiritual closeness with the divine self of the Lord.
