The Annual Festival is celebrated as a thanksgiving to the divine presence at the Udaneshwara Temple.The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Udaneshwara and the Lord is accompanied by Lord Kuttichatha and Sri Shastara Swamy.
The idol of Lord Udaneshwara is believed to have been brought from Kashi (Benarus) by an ascetic about 800 years ago.
Legend has it that the idol (Shivalinga) was found in the river bed of Ganga while the ascetic was taking a holy dip in it. The idol is having a slight convexity at the left side. It is believed that this convexity reflects the presence of Uma' (spouse of Lord Shiva) with Udaneshwara conceptualizing the nuptial auspiciousness of Uma - Maheshwara wedding. This also symbolizes the conjugation of prakruthi - purusha. Many devotees offer to perform Uma - Maheshwara pooja to propitiate and invoke the benediction of the Lord.
Annual Festival 2025 | Udaneshwara Temple Perdala Kasargod
The annual festival of the temple is conducted on Dhanu Sankranthi (mid December) with all fervour and pomp. Thousands of devotees gather to celebrate the festival. Thulabhara offerings are arranged during the festival. During the days of annual festival Bhajana, classical music concert, Bhakti rasa manjari, Thulabara seva and Mahapooja are conducted. Other rituals and prayers such as Deeparadhana, Ranga pooja and Dharshana bali utsava are held at night. Apart from distribution of Prasada, Annadanam
or free food is also served during the festivities.
