The Navikarana Ashtabandha Brahmakalasha Mahotsavam at Sree Pallikkara Bhagavathi Temple, Kasaragod is one of the most revered temple festivals in northern Kerala, celebrated with grandeur and deep devotion.
This festival marks the completion of the intricate Navikarana renovation, a sacred ritual that restores and sanctifies the temple structure and its deities according to traditional Vedic procedures.
Central to the celebrations is the Ashtabandha Brahmakalasha installation where sacred metallic kalashas are ritually fixed onto the temple sanctum symbolizing divine energy and eternal prosperity.
The festival brings together devotees from near and far creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with spiritual fervor and cultural richness. The celebrations are characterized by a blend of ancient rituals, devotional poojas and ceremonial processions.
One of the highlights is the Kalavara Nirakkal procession, a visually striking and rhythmically vibrant march from the nearby Vishnumoorthi temple carrying the symbolic offerings to the deity with traditional music, drums and chants.
Throughout the festival, the temple premises become a hub of devotional performances including classical art forms, folk music and traditional Kerala percussion ensembles like Panchavadyam and Chenda Melam.
