Kaliyatta Mahotsavam at Kunnacheri Sree Poomala Bhagavathi Temple, Kasaragod is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich temple festivals in northern Kerala. Held at the historic Sree Poomala Bhagavathi Temple in Kunnacheri, Thrikkaripur, this festival is a spectacular display of devotion, tradition and artistry that draws devotees and visitors from across the region.
The temple revered for its spiritual significance becomes a hub of festivities where the divine presence of Bhagavathi is celebrated through elaborate rituals and ceremonial performances.
The highlight of the festival is the Theyyam performances a traditional ritualistic art form unique to northern Kerala. These performances are not merely entertainment but are considered sacred manifestations of the deities themselves. The performers, adorned in elaborate costumes, face paints, and intricate ornaments, enact stories of valor, devotion and divine intervention bringing mythology and spirituality alive before the eyes of the devotees.
