Cheriya Pattu Mahotsavam is a ritualistic festival that is held to appease the divine presence at the
temple. The ancient temple, popularly known as Kizhur Sastha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva's son
Groups of singers join together to render songs in praise of the deity.
Pattu Mahotsavam has its origin inside the Nilambur Kovilakam. Prayers and offerings are also made to Lord Shiva during the festival.The Lord is believed to be very benevolent said to be generous to his devotees.

The festival starts with a ritualistic ceremony called Kodiyila
Vaikkal. This is followed Poliyantharam Nattal, Sreebhootha
Bali etc. Special Poojas are held during this time. On the
third day along with the Pattulsavam the ritualistic Thidambu
Nirtham is also performed. The festival ends with
ceremonies called Arithraval and Kalathiliri. The festival is
marked by groups of singers (many hundreds) who join
together to sing in praise of the Lord.
