Trikkanad Sree Thrayambakeshwara Temple Kasargod

Trikkanad Sree Thrayambakeshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the most prominent temples in Kasaragod district. Reverently known as Dakshina Kashi (the Kashi of the South), the temple is uniquely situated along the Arabian Sea, just 1 km from the famous Bekal Fort.

It is the only temple in the district where the deity faces west, symbolically overlooking the ocean. The temple is renowned for its vibrant annual festival, which features traditional performances such as Theyyam and Thitambu Nritham a ritualistic dance performed predominantly by Namboothiri Brahmins of North Kerala. Thitambu Nritham, with a history of over 700 years, is a rare art form where idols of deities are carried on the head while performing intricate dance steps in rhythm with traditional percussion. A distinctive aspect of this temple is the practice of Shiveli, a sacred ritual conducted three times daily. During Shiveli, it is believed that Lord Shiva Himself emerges from the sanctum to ensure Boothaganams are content with the offerings made. The temple’s coastal setting, spiritual ambiance, and cultural significance make it a key pilgrimage site. Just 2 km away lies Pandian Kallu, a popular rocky tourist spot in the sea, adding to the temple’s attraction for both devotees and visitors.
