The main deity worshipped at the Sree Cheerumba Bhagavathi Temple is Cheerumbha Bhagavathi, also known as Kali. According to legend, Cheerumbha Bhagavathi appeared from a tear of Lord Maheshwara that fell on his thigh. She was born with the purpose of killing the demon Darukasura, who was harassing people, saints, and even the Devas.
