Keloth Shri Mahavishnu Temple sits at Keloth village near the small town of Pullur (in Hosdurg taluk), in Kasaragod district, Kerala.
Pullur is a modest rural settlement about 10 km from the taluk headquarters and is part of a cluster of villages and small towns in North Malabar with Pullur-Periya Panchayat being its administrative body.
The principal deity of the temple is Lord Mahavishnu (Vishnu) the preserver aspect in the Hindu trinity who is worshipped by devotees seeking blessings, peace, and spiritual upliftment. In addition to the main sanctum, the temple complex includes sub‑shrines (upa-devatas) dedicated to Ganesha (Ganapathy) and a goddess identified as Bhagavathi. Keloth Temple reflects traditional Kerala Hindu temple architecture, built using “vettukallu” red bricks made from local earth giving it a distinctive rustic yet sacred look. The main sanctum (sreekovil) is a “chathura sreekovil” that is, a square shaped sanctum and it is oriented towards the east, following customary temple design principles. The temple premises also include a “namaskara mandapam” (the hall in front of the sanctum for devotees’ prostrations), a “chuttambalam” (the outer pavilion/wall structure surrounding the sanctum) following the classical Kerala layout.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Vishu
On Vishu, devotees visit the temple to offer prayers to Lord Mahavishnu, seeking blessings for prosperity, peace, and well‑being for the coming year. The festival often involves traditional rituals associated with Vishnu‑temples across Kerala.
Thiruvonam
On this day, devotees offer prayers and special poojas to the main deity. The festival serves as a time for communal worship and gratitude, aligning with the Onam celebrations widespread in Kerala.
