The Pratishtha Dinam and Muthappan Vellattu at Kundamthadam Sree Muthappa Podikkalam, Kannur is one of the most vibrant and spiritually uplifting festivals in Kerala celebrating the divine presence of Lord Muthappan.
This festival is a unique blend of ritualistic devotion, traditional art forms, and community participation reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. The temple situated in the serene surroundings of Kundamthadam becomes a hub of religious fervor and joyous celebration during this auspicious occasion.
The festival begins with the Pratishtha Dinam, a day dedicated to the consecration and reverence of the deity. Devotees from near and far gather to witness the sacred rituals conducted by the chief priests which include elaborate poojas, offerings and ceremonial decorations of the deity. The atmosphere is filled with devotion as the community collectively seeks blessings for prosperity, health and spiritual well being.
Complementing the Pratishtha Dinam is the Muthappan Vellattu, a traditional ritual performance that brings the deity’s divine energy to life. Skilled performers enact the Vellattu with elaborate costumes, rhythmic drumming and folk chants captivating the audience and creating a spiritually immersive experience. Bhajans, devotional songs and musical ensembles enhance the celebratory mood allowing devotees to participate actively in the worship.
