Shivaratri Agosham & Trikala Pooja 2026 at Thavidisseri Varavadikkavu Sree Kirathamurthi Kshethram, Kannur is one of the most important annual festivals of the temple drawing devotees from Kannur and nearby regions to seek the blessings of Lord Kirathamurthi, a fierce and divine manifestation of Lord Shiva.
The festival day begins early in the morning with the ceremonial opening of the temple followed by the regular poojas and rituals performed as per traditional tantric practices. The Trikala Pooja conducted at three significant times of the day forms the spiritual core of the celebration. These rituals are performed with Vedic chanting, sacred offerings and deep devotion creating an atmosphere filled with divine energy and serenity.
In the evening, the temple reopens for special poojas including the highly auspicious Sahasra Deepam where a thousand lamps are lit in reverence to Lord Shiva. The illumination of countless lamps symbolizes the removal of darkness and ignorance inviting divine grace and prosperity into the lives of devotees. The special Shiva Pooja conducted during this time is considered highly meritorious especially on the holy night of Shivaratri.
The celebration is further enriched with cultural programs that reflect Kerala’s devotional heritage. An Aksharasloka session presented by a traditional samithi and various performances by local artists add spiritual and cultural vibrancy to the occasion. Devotees also partake in Annadanam, the sacred offering of food which is regarded as one of the noblest forms of charity.
