Prathishtadina Mahotsavam at Thavidissery Varavadikkavu Sree Kirathamurthi Temple is one of the most revered and spiritually uplifting celebrations in the Kannur region. This annual festival marks the sacred consecration of the deity, Sree Kirathamurthi and brings together devotees from near and far to participate in a series of traditional rituals, poojas and cultural programs.
The festival is a perfect blend of devotion, tradition and community spirit, offering devotees an opportunity to experience the divine energy of the temple in its fullest form.
The celebrations begin with the ceremonial opening of the temple known as Nadathurakkal followed by Abhishekam where the deity is bathed in sanctified waters and sacred substances symbolizing purification and divine blessings. Devotees then offer Malar Nivedyam, floral tributes and Ushapooja which are special morning rituals invoking the grace of the deity.
A highlight of the festival is the Ganapathi Homam, a sacred fire ritual dedicated to Lord Ganesha performed to remove obstacles and bring prosperity to devotees and the community.
The temple comes alive with the sounds of bells, chants and devotional music throughout the day. Uchchapoja, or midday worship is followed by Annadanam, a community meal offered to all devotees, symbolizing generosity and spiritual nourishment. In the evening, the Deeparadhana, the ceremonial lamp worship creates a serene and divine atmosphere followed by Athazha Pooja, the concluding evening ritual. Throughout the festival, regular daily poojas continue alongside these special ceremonies ensuring that the spiritual rhythm of the temple remains uninterrupted.
