Kandothidam Sree Someshvari temple is a very ancient temple which is as famous as the Payyannur Subramanya Swami Temple. The name emerged from the myth that this was the place from where Devi was found (Kanda means found and Idam means place).
It is believed that this temple was installed by Soman, a Saint of a Palace. So the deity was named after that and got the name Someshwari. Pattu Mahothsavam is an annual festival conducted in the temple in honour of the deity in the temple.

The Pattu Mahothsavam festival is held with Valezhunnellathu, Special Navakam, Uchapooja, Thidambezhunnellathu, Sreebhoothabali, Procession to Kavu and Kavil Pattu during all days of the festival. Thayambaka is the main event held during all days of the festival in which each day a famous personality heads the event. Cultural Programs such as music, dance, Nattariva music etc are staged during the festival. Akshara Slokham is a music concert competition conduted during the festival. Ettam Pattu, Kalathilari, Thidambunirtham and Kaliyattam are performed during the last two days of the festival.
