Niramala Mahotsavam at Koodali Shri Ganapathi Temple, Kannur is one of the most vibrant and spiritually uplifting festivals in Kerala. Celebrated with grandeur and devotion, this festival honors Lord Ganapathi, the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of prosperity.
The temple located in the serene surroundings of Koodali becomes a hub of religious and cultural activity during the festival period, drawing devotees from across the region.
The festival is renowned for its colorful and elaborate Niramala ceremony where the temple and its surroundings are adorned with countless lamps, illuminating the night sky and creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Traditional rituals including Ushapooja, Navakalashapooja, Sahasrabhishekam and Deepaaradhana form the spiritual core of the festival allowing devotees to seek blessings, peace and prosperity. These rituals are conducted with meticulous care by learned priests and tantriks maintaining centuries old traditions.
Music and art play a significant role in the festivities. Chenda Melam, Thayambaka and other traditional percussion performances fill the temple premises with rhythm and energy creating an atmosphere of devotion and celebration.
