Varam Poluppil Sree Bhagavathi Temple, located in the scenic village of Varam in Kannur, Kerala, is renowned for its vibrant Kshetra Mahotsavam, an annual temple festival celebrated with devotion, grandeur and traditional rituals.
The festival spans four days and features a series of spiritual and cultural events that attract devotees from across Kerala and neighboring states. Each day begins with sacred poojas and homams including Ganapathi Homam, Thiruvayudha Pooja and Guru Pooja invoking the blessings of the deity for health, prosperity and well being. The evenings are filled with Deeparadhana, traditional lamp offerings and Thidambu Ezhunnallippu, the ceremonial procession of the deity’s idol which is one of the most mesmerizing aspects of the festival.
A key highlight of the festival is the Kudaveppu ceremony symbolizing the divine journey of the deity accompanied by melodious chants and devotional songs. Devotional performances including Ganamela and cultural programs enrich the festivities and reflect Kerala’s rich temple art traditions. The festival also features processions of Veeran and Gulikan Daivams, traditional folk deities which are unique to this region and captivate spectators with their ritualistic significance and rhythmic performances.
The temple committee with the support of devotees ensures the smooth organization of the festival and encourages active participation from the community. Annadanam is offered to all devotees reinforcing the spirit of unity and devotion.
