This is one of the oldest temple in Kannur district. Legend says that the idol of this temple was installed by Sage Parashurama. Lord Shiva is the main deity. Devi, Ganapathy, Ayyappa and Parashurama are the sub deities. Annual festival of this temple takes place on the malayalam month vrishchikam. It is a 7 days spectacular event.

The annual festival is observed in Malayalam month Vrishchikam (November-December). There will be a flag
hoisting ceremony marking the beginning of the festival.The shrine is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut
leaves, flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights. There will be special poojas and offerings during the festival
period.
Traditional performing arts and music and dance are staged during the festival period. Thousands of devotees throng to witness the events and rituals. Numerous cultural programs and temple arts will be
performed on all days of the festival. Caparisoned elephants, melam, fireworks and sheevali are part of the
festival. There will be lot of cultural events and religious discourses.

On the final day Arattu(holy bath) takes place. The utsava murti of the deity is taken out of the shrine for
ritual bathing on the final day. Caparisoned elephants and melam are part of the ritual. Melam, traditional Kerala
temple music with five instruments, are performed as part of the festival.
