Thayineri Sree Kurinji Temple at Payyannur is a centuries old temple. Madayil Chamundi and Poomaruthan are the main deities of the temple. Madayil Chamundi is the incarnation of Goddess. The Kaliyatta Mahotsavam Festival is an annual festival conducted in the Thayineri Sree Kurinji Temple during the Malayalam month Makaram (January - February) due to the belief that Lord Poomaruthan will come for feast to the temple.
