അശ്വതി മഹോത്സവം 2026 ശ്രീ മാറാടി കാവ് ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം കണ്ണൂർ | Aswathi Mahotsavam 2026 Sree Marady Kavu Devi Temple Kannur
Aswathi Mahotsavam is one of the most important annual festivals celebrated at Sree Marady Kavu Devi Temple in Kannur reflecting the deep rooted spiritual traditions and cultural heritage of the region. Observed during the auspicious Aswathi nakshatram in the Malayalam month of Kumbham, the festival draws a large number of devotees who gather to seek the blessings of Goddess Bhagavathi revered here in her powerful and benevolent Bhadrakali form.
The celebrations extend over three spiritually vibrant days and are marked by elaborate temple rituals conducted strictly according to age old customs and tantric practices. Each day begins in the early hours with Palliyunarthal and Nirmalyam Darshan followed by Abhishekam, Malar Nivedyam and various poojas that create an atmosphere filled with devotion and sanctity. One of the major highlights of the festival is the Ashtadravya Maha Ganapathi Homam performed to remove obstacles and invoke prosperity for devotees and the entire region.
Kalamezhuthupattu, a unique ritual art form of Kerala is another central feature of the festival where intricate floor drawings of the deity are created using natural powders, accompanied by devotional songs and rhythmic instruments. The temple premises come alive with Thalappoli Ghoshayathra, Vilakkinezhunnallippu and Kazhcha Sreebali showcasing traditional processions illuminated by oil lamps and enriched by Panchavadyam, Panchari Melam and Pandimelam performed by renowned artists.
Cultural programs form an integral part of the festivities including classical and folk dance performances such as Thiruvathira and Kaikottikkali, devotional music concerts, drama and the ritual dance drama Mudiyettu, which depicts the victory of Goddess Kali over evil forces. These performances not only entertain but also preserve Kerala’s rich ritualistic and performing art traditions.
