Sree Sundareswara Temple Kannur

Sree Sundareswara Temple, consecrated by Sree Narayana Guru Devan in Kannur District, stands as a prominent shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in his form as Sundareswara.

The temple's inception was marked by Guru Devan's approval of a site in Talap, where remnants of an ancient temple were discovered during construction.

938, Guru Devan's statue was consecrated, followed by the installation of the Dwajastambam (flag pole) and Deepastambam (lamp post). The Balikkappura (bali platform) was consecrated in 1939, the Gajamandapam (elephant hall) in 1943, and the temple pond in 1946.

Festivals

The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :

Arattu

Arattu, unfolds over eight days during the Malayalam month of Meenam, commencing with Pooyam Nakshatram. The culmination of the festivities features a grand Arattu procession commencing at 4 PM on the final day, with devotees gathering to participate in the eventful procession. Arattu rituals are conducted at Payyambalam Beach, an auspicious culmination that attracts devotees and spectators alike.

Elaneeratta Maholsavam

During the Elaneeratta Maholsavam, devotees have the unique opportunity to make offerings of tender coconut, a revered symbol of purity and freshness. Additionally, devotees may choose to bathe the idol in tender coconut water, symbolizing cleansing and rejuvenation. This ritual holds special significance during the festival, allowing devotees to express their reverence and devotion to the deity through this sacred act.
