An exceptional aspect of this temple is the equal reverence given to both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. One unique depiction within the temple portrays Lord Vishnu blessing Prahlada after the demise of King Hiranyakashipu.
The ancient Shivalinga housed in this temple has a historical connection dating back to Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, also known as the Lion of Kerala. Legend suggests that this sacred Shivalinga was entrusted to Kavumkara Illam following the demolition of Pazhassi's Palace and Kovilakam by the British.
