The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Durga. She is worshipped as a powerful and benevolent form of the Divine Mother. The Parimadam Sree Durga Temple is considered one of the 108 Durgalayas (Durga temples) believed to have been consecrated by Sage Parashurama. This makes it an ancient and highly significant shrine in the region. It is one of the oldest temples in Mahe. The temple is known for its serene atmosphere and traditional Kerala architectural style. A significant feature is its sacred temple pond, which is considered to be of equal importance as the temple itself.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Navaratri
The Navaratri Mahotsavam is the most significant festival celebrated at the Parimadam Sree Durga Temple. This nine night festival, usually in September-October (Malayalam month of Kanni), is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga in her various forms. During this period, the temple witnesses special pujas, chanting of mantras, cultural programs, and a large number of devotees participating in various rituals.
Prathishta Dinam (Installation Day)
The Prathishta Dinam (Installation Day) of the deity is another important annual observance. This day commemorates the initial consecration of the idol and involves special pujas, abhishekam (ritualistic bathing), and offerings, marking the sacred anniversary of the deity's presence in the temple.
