Moonnambalam Pilgrimage

Moonambalam Temple Kannur

A journey to three temples in Kerala, India

A visit to these three temples is called Moonnambalam Thozhal. Though it's not as widely practiced as it was earlier, it remains a religious custom among many local Hindu women to visit these prominent temples in Taliparamba during pregnancy.

To ensure the birth of healthy children and facilitate a normal delivery, pregnant women (before 5 months) usually make a pilgrimage to these three temples. It's believed that Shiva at the Rajarajeshwara temple assures the child a high status, Sri Krishna of Trichambaram bestows good nature and mental qualities, and the deity Vaidyanatha at Kanjirangad temple grants long life.

Moonnambalam

Taliparamba Temple is additionally linked to two other temples: Thrichambaram Sree Krishna Temple and Kanjirangad Sree Vaidyanatha Temple. The temples of Taliparamba, Thrichambaram, and Kanjirangad are collectively referred to as Moonnambalams (the three temples). Visitors to Taliparamba Temple are encouraged to also visit the Thrichambaram and Kanjirangad temples.
