According to one legend, when Sathyabama failed to notice Lord Krishna standing beside her during prayers, he kicked the idol, which was then found broken in the sea and later retrieved accidentally by a fisherman to Dwaraka.
Following positive astrological indications, the idol was installed in the Kadalayi village, known for its old name, despite its location in Chirakkal.
