Elayavoor Sree Bharatha-Bhagavathi Temple Kannur

Elayavoor Temple is a revered shrine located in Elayavoor village, Kannur district, Kerala. Though originally known for the worship of Bhagavathy, the temple is now primarily dedicated to Lord Bharata, who is venerated here in the form of Sangameshwara. Devotees believe that Sangameshwara is none other than Bharata himself.

At Elayavoor Sree Bharatha-Bhagavathi Temple, the presiding deity is Bharata in the form of Sangameshwara, facing east, while the main Upa Devatas are Bhagavathy and Sri Krishna (locally known as Trikottappan), with Sri Krishna facing west and receiving only one puja daily. Though Bhagavathy was once the primary focus of worship, the temple’s devotion gradually shifted to Bharata as Sangameshwara.


Festivals and Celebrations

The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :

Annual Festival (Pooram in Meenam)

Celebrated during Pooram nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March–April), this festival is mainly dedicated to Bhagavathy, the prominent Upa Devata.

Pratishta Dina Mahotsavam (Karthika in Makaram)

The temple also observes the Pratishta Dina Mahotsavam on Karthika nakshatra in Makaram (January–February), commemorating the consecration of the deity.

Evening: 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
