The temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Bhadrakali, a powerful form of the Divine Mother, whose fierce presence is tempered by an adjacent shrine to a milder form of Durga both installed by Sage Parashurama making it one of Kerala’s 108 ancient Durga shrines. Revered for her ability to uphold truth and justice, Bhadrakali’s sanctum is also often the site of sathyaparesanam ritual oath taking with legend warning of grave consequences for falsehood. Housing a secondary deity, Ammulamma, the temple upholds a daily ritual schedule (Usha, Ucha, Athazha poojas) and blends solemn worship with community cohesion
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Pooram Mahotsavam (Annual Festival)
Held over eight days during Meenam (March–April), the Pooram Festival celebrates the temple’s peak divine energy. Festivities include Thidambu Nrutham (ritual idol dances), grand ezhunnallippu processions, offerings like Gramabali and Pallivetta, along with bhajans, folk dance, and Kalathilariyum Pattum performances
Thrikkarthika
Observed in Vrishchikam, this festival of lights sees devotees illuminate the temple with countless oil lamps (Karthika Vilakku), symbolizing light’s triumph, and engage in special prayers and floral offerings under the auspicious Karthika star
