Shasti Viratham 2026 at Sree Subramanya Mahadeva Temple, Idukki is observed with great devotion and spiritual fervor marking one of the most significant days dedicated to Lord Murugan. Shasti, the sixth lunar day is considered highly auspicious in Murugan worship as it symbolizes the divine victory of Lord Subramanya over evil forces and represents courage, wisdom, and righteousness. Devotees believe that observing Shasti Viratham with sincerity brings protection, prosperity, good health and fulfillment of wishes.
At Sree Subramanya Mahadeva Temple, Shasti Viratham is not merely a ritual but a deeply spiritual experience. From the early hours of the day, the temple atmosphere becomes vibrant with sacred chants and devotional activities. Special abhishekam is performed to the deity using holy water, milk, honey, turmeric, sandalwood paste and other sacred substances accompanied by the chanting of Vedic hymns and Murugan mantras such as “Om Saravanabhava”. The deity is then beautifully adorned with flowers and traditional ornaments creating a divine and serene ambiance.
Devotees observe fasting as part of the viratham maintaining purity in body and mind. Many spend the day in prayer, meditation and temple darshan, offering archana, pushpanjali and naivedyam seeking Lord Murugan’s blessings. Bhajans and devotional songs praising Subramanya Swami are often organized allowing devotees to participate collectively in worship. In some instances, special rituals such as Shasti pooja and homams are conducted for the welfare of devotees and the community.
The evening rituals hold special importance with deeparadhana illuminating the temple premises and enhancing the spiritual atmosphere. The sense of unity, devotion and faith among the devotees makes Shasti Viratham a memorable and uplifting occasion.
