The Meenappooram Mahotsavam 2026 at Valliyanikkaattu Bhagavathi Temple, Idukki is one of the most anticipated temple festivals in the region, attracting devotees and cultural enthusiasts from across Kerala.
This vibrant festival is a celebration of devotion, tradition and the rich cultural heritage of Kerala.
The festival begins with Thrikodiyettam, the ceremonial flag hoisting which signifies the official commencement of the celebrations. Over the following days, devotees participate in various sacred rituals such as Tozhal on the star days of Aayilyam and Makam seeking blessings from the deity for health, prosperity and well being. The concluding day of the festival is celebrated with Meenappooram and Kodiyirakku bringing the week long festivities to a solemn and devotional close.
One of the highlights of the Meenappooram Mahotsavam is the array of traditional art forms and cultural programs. The temple hosts Kalam Ezuthu, the intricate ritualistic floor drawings of the deity accompanied by devotional songs and chants. These are complemented by Deepa Aradhana, the ceremonial lamp worship which adds a divine aura to the temple premises. The festival also emphasizes community participation through Annadanam and stage cultural programs, where local artists showcase classical and folk art forms.
