Kumbham Uthram Thrikkodiyet Mahotsavam is one of the most significant annual festivals celebrated at Sreedharmashastha Temple in Idukki, Kerala. This festival which spans several days is a vibrant blend of religious rituals, cultural programs and community participation.
It is observed during the Malayalam month of Kumbham culminating on the auspicious day of Uthram Nakshatra which holds special significance in the worship of Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity of the temple.
During the festival, the temple comes alive with elaborate decorations, traditional lamps and ceremonial flags marking the beginning of the celebrations. Devotees from various parts of Kerala and beyond gather to participate in the rituals which include special poojas, abhishekams and homams. The festival is also known for its unique Thrikkodiyet, which is the ceremonial hoisting of the temple flag signifying the start of the Mahotsavam.
